Networking Tools

Networking is one of the most effective ways to find out about a new job or career. By connecting with people and then nurturing the resulting relationships, you are able to learn about career fields and jobs as well as tap into the job market. In addition to utilizing existing professional contacts and personal relationships, you have access to several Duke resources to expand your network:

DukeConnect

DukeConnect is a database of Duke alumni who have volunteered to assist you with your career exploration process. It is a source of information about majors/fields of study, industries and career paths. [more info]

CareerSearch

CareerSearch is an extensive database that includes over one million companies along with contact names, addresses, phone numbers and a variety of company information. Searches may be conducted by industry type, location and keywords. This powerful tool enables you to search for companies in your desired field as well as in targeted geographical areas.

If you are a new user, the site will prompt you to create a new account; if you have already created an account, simply enter your username and password under “Returning Users.” [Access CareerSearch.]

E-Leads

E-Leads provides potential leads for internships, externships and jobs in industries where pro-active recruiting does not typically take place. Since many industries and companies do not actively recruit on college campuses, E-Leads provides an opportunity for you to learn about positions offered by such companies. [Access E-Leads.]

Career Fairs

The Career Fairs held in the fall and spring of each year provide an opportunity to network with employer representatives from business, government and non-profit agencies. While the Career Fair is a great way to evaluate potential job options, it also can be a valuable tool for those not yet ready to search for a specific job. You can learn about different industries and careers while simultaneously expanding your network of contacts. All Duke University students and alumni are invited to attend. [more info]
