Funding Details

While many organizations pay students for internship experiences, others, such as government and political groups, media companies and non-profits, do not. In order to encourage students to evaluate opportunities of interest to them, the Career Center aims to extricate funding from the decision-making process. Options for obtaining internship funding include:

Internship Funding Program

Through the Internship Funding Program, the Career Center aims to make it possible for more students to engage in internships, whether paid or unpaid. Through the generosity of corporate, individual and class donors, we are able to offer grants ranging from $600 to $2,500 for students who accept unpaid or low-paying internships and demonstrate financial need. Please note that the process for obtaining one of these grants occurs relatively early in the spring semester, so apply early!

The types of awards available for funding internships include:
  • Unrestricted Funds – any employment sector
  • Service Funds – service / non-profit environments
  • Health Service Funds – health service sector
  • Durham Service Funds – service internships in the Durham community during the summer months
