Funding Details
While many organizations pay students for internship
experiences, others, such as government and political groups, media
companies and non-profits, do not. In order to encourage students
to evaluate opportunities of interest to them, the Career Center
aims to extricate funding from the decision-making process. Options
for obtaining internship funding include:
Internship Funding Program
Through the Internship Funding Program, the Career Center aims to
make it possible for more students to engage in internships,
whether paid or unpaid. Through the generosity of corporate,
individual and class donors, we are able to offer grants ranging
from $600 to $2,500 for students who accept unpaid or low-paying
internships and demonstrate financial need. Please note that the
process for obtaining one of these grants occurs relatively early
in the spring semester, so apply early!The types of awards available for funding internships include:
- Unrestricted Funds – any employment sector
- Service Funds – service / non-profit environments
- Health Service Funds – health service sector
- Durham Service Funds – service internships in the Durham community during the summer months
