What do you wish you had known about the Career Center as an underclassman?

I wish that I had not limited myself to a single career advisor.  Since I was interested in going to medical school, I initially met solely with the health careers advisor, but when I expanded my search to include several other counselors, I found that my career interests expanded as well.

How has the Career Center helped you with your career search?

I found my summer job by utilizing the resources recommended by Teri Mills and Abby Vargas.  That job directly impacted my career path, and I will now be doing something for the next two years that I might not have otherwise considered.

What has been the most valuable Career Center resource you have used?

The career advisors have been an invaluable resource.  I went in there with no clue (literally!) and came out with so many ideas about where to search and how to find a job I was interested in.

How did your internship affect your career path?

Before my summer job, I wasn’t interested in teaching.  After that experience, however, my opinion was changed, and now I’ll be working for Teach For America for the next two years.

How have you utilized the Career Center?

I’ve met with several counselors, used Duke eRecruiting, found alumni on DukeConnect, explored the website, and attended Career Week.
