What do you wish you had known about the Career Center early on at Duke?
I wish I would have known about the Resource Room.  There are so many books on so many sectors.  It is a great place to find those internships for first-year and sophomore summers. There is also a lot of information on international experiences, full-time, internships, and volunteer.

What do you think the Career Center’s role is?

I think the Career Center’s role is twofold: 1) For those students who have yet to decide on what they want their future to be, the Career Center is there to educate them about the numerous choices they have, and, 2) For those who already know what they want to do, the Career Center is there to guide them.
Either way, the Career Center will help students go beyond their boundaries.

Are there any services that the Career Center provides that really stand out to you?

1) Internship Exchange – A huge database of shared internship opportunities among other prestigious universities.

2) DukeConnect – A database that helps you connect with Duke alumni.  I was able to set up a week of shadowing with a radiologist through this great resource.  Plus, it’s a great thing to say you heard of a company through these people on your cover letter.

3) Career Counselors – They are there to help you in a multitude of ways.

Do you have any advice regarding the Career Center and internship and career exploration?

Start as early as possible.  You should know the location of the Career Center, 106 Page,  the moment you get to Duke.  106 Page should be ingrained in your brain.  Do not hesitate to take advantages of the resources and contacts available.  Duke brings many contacts so reach out to them.
