On-Campus Recruiting Policies for Students
Attendance at an on-campus recruiting orientation session is required in order to access Duke eRecruiting.
• Students who have never attended an OCR (on-campus recruiting) orientation will need to attend the orientation to gain access to the Duke eRecruiting system.
• Students will have limited access to the system (blocked) until they attend an orientation session.
• Access will be activated/re-activated within one business day following the orientation that the student attends.
The orientation sessions will explain the recruiting process, discuss how to plan for on-campus interviews, review the policies and practices involved in interviewing and explain how to handle scheduling conflicts, employer visits and job offers. This orientation is REQUIRED to use the Duke eRecruiting system to sign up for recruiting activities. In order to access the system you must be activated by the Career Center, so please plan to attend one of the many sessions available to you. See events. If you have any questions about the policy or orientation schedule, please contact the Career Center at 919-660-1053.
No Show Policy
The no show policy applies when a student does not appear for a scheduled interview and/or when a student cancels an interview after the interview schedule freezes at 12:00am two business days before the employer's interviews begin.
First Offense -The student will:
• lose full access to the Duke eRecruiting system until he/she attends a meeting with Assistant Director of Employer Relations, Anne Lyford.
• contact the Career Center to schedule the meeting by phone (660-1050) or email.
• bring a letter of apology addressed to the interviewer to be reviewed and approved by the Assistant Director and sent via email to the interviewer.
Second Offense - The student will be banned from all On-Campus Interviewing activities.
Misrepresentation
Falsifying data such as your GPA, dates of graduation, major/minor, work experience, eligibility to work in the United States or other information is unethical and in violation of the Duke Community Standard. If you falsify documents or misrepresent yourself to any employer, whether via our recruiting program or in your independent job search, the Career Center has the right to rescind your privileges to use our services. You may also be subject to disciplinary action through the Dean of Students Office. Employers have the right to withdraw an offer or terminate your employment for misrepresentation.
Reneging on Job Offers
Once you accept a job offer, whether via our recruiting program or in your independent job search, you are expected to withdraw completely from the job search process. If you are uncertain as to whether you should accept an offer, please consult with a Career Center staff member. Reneging is unprofessional and jeopardizes Duke's reputation in the employment community as well as your own. Should you reneg on an offer, the Career Center may block you from participating in any additional on-campus interviews.
