Position Description and Application Process
Each Spring, the Career Center recruits new students, through a competitive process, to serve as part of our peer groups: the Career Advising Team (CATs), Diversity Liaison Team and Employer Ambassadors. Members of this selective organization serve as peer educators and work as an extension of the Career Center staff to provide high quality service to Duke students and visiting employers. Incoming team members will join one of the peer groups while collaborating with other group members on Career Center projects and outreach efforts. Mission:
All peer educators will be role models for the Career Center's emphasis on career exploration, self-reflection, and the personalized search. Peer educators will also have the opportunity to develop experience in any or all of these realms:
• Teaching: advising and presenting to a variety of audiences; serving as student advisors to the Career Center
• Advocacy/Marketing: serve as ambassadors to external populations and receive guests and clients; initiate relationships inside and outside of Duke
• Research: collecting and analyzing information that will expand the reach and services of the Career Center
Leadership:
All peer educators have the opportunity of being a part of a new leadership team who will work under the guidance of a three-person Career Center team. Those appointed include:
• Peer Education Chair: primary liaison between peer educators and the Career Center; manages and delegates primary administrative tasks (e.g. budget)
• CAT Chair: primary leader of the Career Advising Team; convenes committees and advisors as needed
• Diversity Liaison Team Chair: primary leader of the Diversity Liaison Team; convenes committees and advisors as needed
• Employer Ambassadors Chair: primary leader of the Employer Ambassadors; convenes committees and advisors as needed
New Opportunities:
• Learn and contribute beyond the traditional role of your group (e.g. writing content for the Career Center website)
• Ongoing professional projects integrated with all staff and initiatives of the Career Center (e.g. coordinating volunteer roles for career fairs)
• Significant relationships with the Career Center staff as advisors, mentors, and allies in your own job search and interests
• Monthly meetings focusing on innovative ideas and projects
• An assortment of training options allowing you to develop a breadth or depth of expertise based on your interests and goals
• Increased opportunities for student leadership of projects
• Single point of outreach, recruiting, and selection for new peer educators
Requirements/Qualifications:
• Must be a Duke undergraduate student and in good academic standing
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be reliable and able to remain committed to peer educator obligations
• Participate in two annual training sessions, one each semester, and one training session for new peer educators
• Willingness to commit 5 hours a week, plus...
• twelve hours of training each semester
• four hours of mentoring each semester

Application Process:
Selections will be based upon a competitive application and interview process. **Applications must be received by Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Midnight in order to qualify for consideration.** Students will be chosen for interviews based upon their application. After interviews, peer educators will be selected and notified before the end of classes in April.
