Counseling

The goal of career counseling at the Duke University Career Center is to help students and alumni develop an action plan for accomplishing their personal career goals. Through counseling, advising and coaching, career counselors can help you explore career options, develop strategies for expanding your career knowledge and skill set and create action plans for securing internships or full-time jobs. Since there are benefits to developing a relationship with your counselor as soon as your first year at Duke, we hope you’ll visit early and often. Career counselors can help you:

• explore career possibilities
• learn about how majors and careers relate to one another
• articulate your values, skills and interests
• create strategies for making the most of your Duke experience
• find industry specific advice and information
• identify internship and job opportunities
• develop job search skills

Counseling Appointment Cancellation Policy
Due to the large number of students seeking service and the limited number of appointments available, if you need to cancel a scheduled appointment, please contact the Career Center 24-hours prior to your appointment time, or as soon as possible if illness is the cause.  When you miss an appointment without contacting the office, a notation is made in your record and repeated “no-shows” will jeopardize your ability to schedule future appointments

Late Policy
Anyone arriving 15-minutes late will be recorded as a “no-show”.  If you arrive late, less than 15-minutes, your appointment time will be reduced by the number of minutes you arrive late.
