What do you think the Career Center’s role is?
I believe the Career Center is there to help you pursue your interests in the real world. For example, as a freshman you may have taken an interesting course or developed a unique hobby that you would like to extend and apply in the real world. However, you may not know where to begin such a search. The Career Center facilitates this whole process of helping you find what you want to do. I don’t think that the Career Center has one specific role, but their goal is to guide and help you with your future endeavors, whether these may include a summer internship, a physician shadowing opportunity, or getting a job after college. They are there to help you get to where you want to go.
How have you personally utilized the Career Center?
I went to the Career Center when I wanted to shadow physicians over the summer. One summer I shadowed a neurosurgeon at Duke and the following one I shadowed an orthopedic surgeon. Both of these experiences were very engaging and inspirational as I got to see a variety of really interesting surgeries.
