Career Week Student Positions

CAREER WEEK 2007-2008 PAID STUDENT TEAM MEMBERS

The Career Center and Alumni Affairs is seeking student members to help plan and implement the 4th Annual Duke Career Week.  Career Week is a week-long event that will include workshops, dinners, and special events. We expect over 200 alumni to return to Duke as presenters.  Faculty and administrators will also be involved. Duke Career Week will take place early in the spring semester 2008.  It will provide students with an awesome opportunity to explore many career interests and gain valuable information. 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

•    Work with other Career Week Planning Team members from the Career Center and Alumni Affairs to develop, plan, and implement all aspects of Duke Career Week.
•    Participate in Career Week planning meetings, generally held once every two weeks starting in September then increasing to once a week as Career Week approaches.
•    Provide student’s perspective and input in the planning process.
•    Work as part of a team to brainstorm and implement effective marketing initiatives.
•    Communicate with alumni.
•    Identify and recruit student volunteers to assist planning committee.
•    Manage volunteer schedules and coordinate matching process.
•    Act as liaison to student organizations.
•    Co-present information sessions to student groups.
•    Provide additional assistance as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

•    Have a strong interest in the program and its goals.
•    Demonstrated knowledge of campus resources and student interests.
•    Must be flexible and committed to helping the program committee.
•    Must be outgoing/friendly and willing to talk to people one on one and in large or small groups.
•    Have excellent organizational and leadership skills.
•    Be self-motivated and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
•    Must be a team player.
•    Be creative thinkers and think outside of the box.
•    Must be enrolled in undergraduate classes for the 2007-2008 academic school year.
•    Marketing/fundraising skills a plus.
•    Work study students preferred but not required.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The position will begin Fall 2007 and the start date is in late-August.  The time commitment for this program will be on average 10hrs/wk. During busy times (3 weeks prior to the event in late January or early February) we anticipate an increase in hours to as much as 20 hours/wk.  Much work can be accomplished outside of the Career Center. Pay is $8.00 per hour.
