As Director of Graduate Career Services at the Career CenterVirginia Steinmetz counsels advanced students in the GraduateSchool at any stage of their study and coordinates programs toaddress their career-related concerns. She earned her bachelor’sdegree in English at Wheaton College ( Illinois), a master’s atTemple University and a doctorate in 18th and 19th century Britishand American literature at Duke. She has published 2 spinoffs ofher dissertation in Victorian Poetry. Prior to joining the CareerCenter staff in 1991, she taught English literature and compositionin middle and secondary schools, British literature on a liberalarts college faculty, Victorian and travel literature for DukeContinuing Studies  and co-coordinated a course on women andwar for the Durham and Sanford communities under a grant from theNC Humanities Council. She is certified Career Facilitator and amember of the Graduate Career Consortium, a professionalassociation of counselors who serve graduate students in the memberschools of the  Association of American Colleges andUniversities.
