Core Services

The Career Center at Duke University provides career services of the highest standard to undergraduates, graduate students and alumni of Trinity College, the Pratt School of Engineering and the Graduate School.
Career Counseling    We offer individual counseling to assist you with your career planning and job search.  You can work with a counselor to discuss career-related issues, have your resume, CV, and/or a cover letter reviewed, as well as find networking opportunities while you're in graduate school.  Counselors can help you explore and evaluate career options based on your skills and interests.  Counselors also conduct mock interviews to help you strengthen your interviewing and negotiation skills.  Counseling appointments must be made by phone (660-1050) at least one day in advance.

Programs and Events    We offer general seminars throughout the year that cover such topics as Faculty or Professional Job Search Essentials, Preparing for Campus Interviews, Interview Skills, Negotiating Faculty Job Offers and Getting Tenure, and Building a Professional Network.  Some of these events require registration via the Duke eRecruiting calendar (Go to Calendar Search, choose Presentation in the Event-Type drop-down menu, and click Search).

We also offer specialized seminars and workshops.  Departments and student groups can contact us with their specific career needs or issues, and we can help design and deliver a workshop that will address those needs.  Past workshops have included Professional Job Search for Pharmacology Graduate Students and Resume Writing for Medical Physics Graduate Students.

Employer representatives come to campus to conduct information sessions and on-campus interviews, and to connect with students through career fairsThe North Carolina PhD and Masters Career Fair is held every mid-November in Chapel Hill, sponsored by Duke University and five other universities in North Carolina. The Fannie Mitchell Career Conference, formerly a part of Duke Career Week is a campus-wide career exploration event held in late January.
