Frequently Asked Questions

In this section, you will find questions that employers generally ask about recruiting at Duke.  Please click on the relevant subject on the right navigation bar for more information. If you still have questions that are not answered here, please contact Nicolette Brion or Sarah London and they will be glad to assist you.

Q.  How can I review "Resume Books" for Duke University?
A.  At this time, Duke University is not using the Resume Books feature of Experience.

Q.  How do I post my job description?
A.  First, make sure that you are linked to your company profile with Duke Experience.  You will not be able to post a position without being linked.  Second, when you log in, click on the "Jobs" tab.  From there, on the right hand side of the screen, you will see a prompt box - the bottom selection is "Create a new job".  Required fields are provided for you to give as much detail as possible about what you're looking for.
*Please do not send the job description, this will leave less room for error.

Q: How do I link to the system?
A: Go to the access request link (http://duke.experience.com/emp/sblogin) and select "Create an Account".  Complete all required fields and agree to terms of service.  Finally, select "Request Access", which will submit your request.  Most requests are approved within 2-3 business days.

Q:  I don't see my interview schedule when I log into my company profile.
A:  Your job has not been linked to your interview schedule.  Please make sure to post your job and let Nicolette know when you have done so.  If you are recruiting for more than one position, and more than one schedule, include how many schedules should be attached to which position.  Your job needs to be posted before the schedule can be attached!

Q.  What is our company's resume drop deadline / trigger dates?
A:  Duke has a 17 day process to ensure that as many students as possible have adequate time to sign up for your interview slots.  The rest of the dates are done in approximately 5 day intervals, with the exception of alternates.  Unless otherwise discussed, your company will be set on the 17 day schedule.

Example:
9/24: Interview Date
9/07: Resume Drop Deadline
9/14: Your Company Pre-Select Deadline
9/19: Student Interview sign up deadline
9/22: Alternate Sign Up Deadline
9/23: Interview Schedule Freezes (no changes)

Q.  How do I choose my pre-selects?
A.  Once your company chooses from the applicants, go into your company profile and select those students.  Please do not send Nicolette a list unless changes need to be made.  The following are your choices for decisions:

Accepted ~ given first choice for an interview time
Alternate ~ given second choice for an interview time
Decline ~ will not be allowed to sign up for an interview

Q.  My information session is not listed in my events in Experience.
A.  You have not emailed Nicolette with the location of your event.  DO NOT change the date or time given without speaking with Nicolette first.

Q.  How is my information session advertised and what can my company do to help?
A.  The Career Center advertises your event in various calendars that students see.  It is part of the Career Center calendar, Duke Experience Calendar, and Duke.edu Calendar.

* Your company can advertise through the following ways:

Duke Chronicle:  Chrissy Beck at (919) 684-0372 or visit their website at www.dukechronicle.com/advertising.

A list of student groups is also available via the Student Affairs website

Q.  Where should I send my materials?
A.  There are two different places that you should send your materials

1.  Information Session:  Send materials to the venue that you have a contract with, as this will help speed up the set up time.  If the address is not on your contract, try contacting them directly, or use Duke.edu, Google or Yahoo.

2.  Career Fair: Send materials to -
Duke University Career Center
03 Page Building, Chapel Drive
Durham, NC 27708
Attn: Sarah London
RE: Career Fair Materials

Q. I am coming to campus for information session or interviews - where do I park and where do I go?
A.  Please refer to "Interview Logistics".  We will provide 1 parking pass per company.  If there is a special event on campus that night, the parking attendant in the visitor parking garage will be notified that recruiters will be on campus.

*If your events are in the Bryan Center, Old Trinity Room, Sanford School of Public Policy, Pratt School of Engineering or the Career Center - please park in the Bryan Center Visitor Parking Garage.

*The Career Center is located next to Duke Chapel, in the Page Building.

*If you are holding an event at the Washington Duke Inn or Millennium Hotel you may park in their lots without a parking pass.

Q.  What is the difference between eRecruiting and Experience?
A.  Generally, we refer to the eRecruiting side for students and Duke Experience for employers and Duke alumni.

Q.  I am confused as to which email to send correspondence to: career-employer@studentaffairs.duke.edu or nicolette.brion@duke.edu.
A.  Nicolette receives both, but Sarah also receives career-employer.
